This term, our theme is called ’New Life’.

Children are in full swing with exploring and developing an understanding of life cycles for animals and plants.

Children have been learning about the process of observational paintings of flowers, and were super creative with painting farm animals and their babies. Next week, children will have the opportunity to plant a sunflower seed, observe, care for and talk about the changes, and then finally take them home.

We have been busy exploring the wonders of “New Life,” from the tiniest seeds to how we grow as humans.

Our budding botanists have even started their own gardening projects!

We’ve explored the journey of “The Tiny Seed” and followed Jack up his beanstalk in “Jack and the Beanstalk.” To help us understand the science behind the stories, we’ve also been reading “From Seed to Sunflower.” In our writing sessions, the children have been:

● Labelling the different parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, and petals). ●Retelling the exciting adventures of Jack and his cow, Daisy.
● Writing Instructions: Carefully listing the steps needed to plant a seed.

Speaking of seeds, every child has now planted their very own sunflower seed! We are keeping a close eye on them to see whose will be the first to sprout. In Math’s, we have been exploring two very important concepts:

● Doubling: Finding out what happens when we have two of the same amount (e.g., “Double 2 is 4!”).
● Sharing: Learning how to distribute items into two equal groups to make sure everyone gets a “fair share.”

We’ve been using lots of “farm-counters” and “magic beans” to help us visualise this on a part, part, whole mat.

It has been an action-packed few weeks in Year 1!

From the narrow streets of 17th-century London to the colourful world of the Truffula trees, the children have been fully immersed in their learning adventures.

Maths: Mastering Numbers to 20

The children did a brilliant job learning to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour. We have now transitioned into Addition and Subtraction within 20.

Literacy: The Lorax and Character Clues

Our Shared Reading sessions have been centered around Dr. Seuss’s classic, The Lorax. The children have been captivated by the vibrant rhymes and the important message about looking after our planet.

In our Writing sessions, we have been using the Lorax as inspiration for our character descriptions. We are encouraging the children to:

● Use expanded noun phrases (e.g., “the short, orange creature”).
● Use adjectives to describe not just how a character looks, but how they feel and act.

History: The Great Fire of London

Year 1 traveled back in time to 1666 to investigate The Great Fire of London. We have been exploring:

● Pudding Lane: How a small fire in Thomas Farriner’s bakery spread across the city.
● Historical Evidence: Learning how we know about the fire through the diary of Samuel Pepys.
● Cause and Effect: Discussing why the fire spread so quickly (hint: it involves wooden houses and a very dry summer!).

Year 2 has been working very hard this half term.

Firstly, we enjoyed our class trip to the library. In shared reading, we have been reading ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ which the children have enjoyed.

In maths, we have been working on telling the time, particularly O’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We have been looking at plants and pollination in science, learning about the different types of pollination and the plants which are pollinated.

In topic, we have been looking at the Victorian period, and their living conditions and how they were different to ours today.

In PE, year 2 have been learning about gymnastics, which has been very interesting for them. Year 2 are working really hard and learning a great amount which is amazing. Keep up the fantastic work year 2!

In 3S this half term we have been learning all about plants in science.

We understand how water travels through a plant and how they get their food from the sun (Photosynthesis).

In topic, we started our next History unit on Ancient Rome. 3S have engaged in excellent discussion and debates based on the lifestyles of people from Ancient Rome. We have just finished our most recent Shared Reading book, ‘Little badman and the invasion of the killer aunties’, which the class thoroughly enjoyed reading! We are now starting our new book, ‘Toro! Toro!’ by Michael Morpurgo.

In Maths, we have just finished our unit on time. The class has made wonderful progress in this area and are clearly more confident. Keep up the good work!

Year 4 are really enjoying the new Shared Reading book called ‘Malamander’ all about a mythical sea monster that haunts the town of Eerie-on-Sea.

The children are working really hard on their reading fluency and adding intonation and expression into their reading. In Science we are looking at plants, their structures and pollination. The History Topic of Anglo Saxons and Vikings is proving a hit with the children, they have been learning about Sutton Hoo and the burial site there and Anglo Saxon artefacts.

The Year residential is fast approaching and we know that the children will enjoy the planned activities during their stay. This will be a great opportunity for the children to build new friendships and have a chance to try things they might not have experienced before. We hope for good weather like last year, bring on the sunshine!

It has been an incredibly busy and inspiring half term in Year 5!

In our Shared Reading lessons, the children have been captivated by Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We have had some wonderful discussions about kindness, resilience, and seeing beyond the surface.

Meanwhile, in our History sessions, we have travelled back in time to explore the Golden Age of Baghdad. The children have been fascinated by the circular design of the Round City and the incredible scientific breakthroughs of the House of Wisdom.

Year 6 has had a brilliant start to Spring 2.

Pupils have been working incredibly hard in their lessons and have started revising for their SATs assessments. Pupils are encouraged to continue to revise at home using reading plus, rollama and Maths CGP books.

This half term year 6 have had the chance to complete different science experiments relating to the topic of electricity. Pupils have really enjoyed being hands on with their learning and demonstrating their new knowledge.

It has been a season of discovery and growth in SEU 1!

Our Reception children are currently exploring the wonders of “New Life,” focusing on farm animals and the fascinating life cycle of the butterfly. Meanwhile, our Year 1 historians are diving into the Great Fire of London; they’ll soon be building their own London street scenes to bring the event to life.

In Year 2, the focus has turned to the importance of medicines. During Shared Reading, we’ve enjoyed diving into stories like The Little Green Hen, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Ruby’s Worry.

With the warmer weather arriving, we are also making the most of our outdoor water play area! Please ensure your child has a spare set of clothes at school so they can stay dry and comfortable after these splashes of fun.

Children in SEU2 have been busy exploring the theme of “New Life” through a variety of hands-on activities.

In Shared Reading, we have been diving into the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, which inspired some fantastic artwork and a creative papier maché project where we crafted our very own golden eggs.

Our young gardeners have also been potting seeds and carefully watering them to watch them grow. This sensory exploration extended into messy play, where the children enjoyed investigating both dry and wet textures. Academically, the children are making incredible progress in Read Write Inc and in Maths, we have been developing our subitising skills through practical, play-based activities.

We have also enjoyed our weekly music lessons, exploring a range of percussion instruments and performing nursery rhymes together as a group. We are incredibly proud of the progress everyone in SEU2 is making—well done to all!

In SEU 3, we have been diving deep into our history topic, The Great Fire of London!

We are currently beginning to build our very own London street scene, complete with narrow streets and wood-framed houses. This project will continue over the next few weeks as we bring our historical scene to life.

In PE, our focus on coordination and balance has been so popular that it inspired the children to design their own creative obstacle courses inside the classroom!

Now that the weather is finally warming up again, we have also been making the most of the sunshine with messy play outdoors, which has been a fantastic way for the students to strengthen their fine motor control while having plenty of fun.

Currently, we are working on lots of different styles in music from Disco to Bhangra using a range of different instruments.
