The nursery children have been super busy learning about different festivals and celebrations this term.

Every week the children have walked into the nursery with a different celebration to explore and embrace.

In maths we have been working really hard learning about repeating patterns, 2D shapes, comparing big and small for size, comparing heavy and light objects for weight and recognising and matching numerals to quantity.

Please support your child to develop early maths at home, as this can be done through everyday activities. Go on a shape and patterns hunt in the house, counting stairs, fingers and objects around them, talk about the morning routine, sing number rhymes and go on a maths hunt as you walk to school, looking carefully at numbers on the doors, car number plates and shapes in the environment. Maths is everywhere!

In Reception we enjoyed exploring a range of exciting books, including The Scarecrows’ Wedding, The Lion Inside, and our non-fiction text all about the seasons.

In Writing, the children practised labelling a picture, as well as writing captions and simple sentences to match their work.

In Maths, we focused on adding and subtracting with the number 6, using practical resources to help us solve problems. We also learnt about Diwali and created colourful artwork to celebrate the festival of lights.

In addition, we talked about firework safety and spent time learning about Remembrance Day, thinking about why it is an important time to honour and reflect.

We have gone owl-crazy in Year 1!

After enjoying the story Owl Babies, the children became researchers and wrote their own non-fiction fact files. They did a brilliant job using their phonics to write facts about these fascinating nocturnal creatures. Ask your child to tell you their favourite owl fact tonight!

We then continued our fact-finding mission in Food Technology, where the children learned about the culinary icon Mary Berry. The class practiced their listening and recall skills to create a profile on her, discussing her role in British baking and television.

Year 2 has had a very exciting and busy term so far!

In maths, the children have had fun learning all about measuring and have been using metre sticks and tape measures to find out how tall or long objects are.

In shared reading, the children have been reading The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. A fabulous book enjoyed by all.

In Science, the children have been learning all about the properties of objects. They have explored materials and discussed what properties they have and what they could be used for.

In Religious Education, the children have been learning all about the Jewish faith and what is important to them, focusing on Shabbat. Thank you for your continued support with hearing your children read. A reminder that books need to be returned every Friday for new ones to go home.

Year 3 has had a very busy half term!

We have enjoyed our art week so far that has been focusing on designing and creating wire figures based off a pose they picked to show movement.

In shared reading we have been reading ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl. We have thoroughly enjoyed this book and sharing our thoughts and predictions.

In RE we have started a new topic on Judaism. We have been focusing and learning all about special traditions and beliefs within this culture.

In maths this term, we have been focusing a lot on addition and subtraction. We have now moved onto learning about measurements. Specifically using a ruler to measure in both centimetres and millimetres. A reminder that all children can access TT Rockstars and reading plus at home. This will really help them with our in class learning!

Year 4 has been stepping into the shoes of investigative journalists this half term as part of our work on the classic story, Emil and the Detectives.

We have been focusing on the dramatic scene where Emil realises his money has gone missing! To prepare for writing our own front-page newspaper reports, the children participated in a lively role-play activity. They paired up to act out interviews, taking turns as the probing reporter and the shocked eyewitness.

This drama exercise was fantastic for helping them generate authentic quotes and understand the emotions of the characters before putting pen to paper.

Year 5 has had a busy and exciting term so far!

In Maths, pupils have been strengthening their skills in multiplication and division, tackling problems with growing confidence. During Shared Reading, the class has been enjoying Holes by Louis Sachar, exploring its characters and themes through discussion.

In Science, they have been investigating states of matter with hands-on activities, and in RE they have been learning about Judaism, gaining a deeper understanding of its beliefs and traditions.

A reminder to families and carers to please support children by practising times tables and reading every night — little and often makes a big difference!

Year 6 has had a brilliant half term so far!

Pupils have thoroughly enjoyed our Art unit learning how to make collagraphs and designing their own.

In maths, pupils are working hard to improve their arithmetic skills and apply these to reasoning style problems.

Earlier in the half term, pupils had the chance to take part in a STEM workshop, where children got to use robots to build and test out cars. We definitely have a few engineers among us!

A reminder that all Year 6 pupils can access reading plus at home and doing this a few times a week will really support them!

SEU 1 has had a truly wonderful and enriching term so far, marked by memorable experiences and focused learning across all age groups.

A recent highlight was a special visit from donkeys, which provided a fantastic sensory and interaction opportunity for the children, who thoroughly enjoyed touching and brushing them.

In Topic, the Reception children have been focusing on the theme of Celebrations, engaging with topics like birthdays, fireworks and Diwali, while the Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring the Jewish faith.

Shared Reading continues to be a favourite, with the children enjoying a variety of captivating stories such as Winnie the Witch and Stickman, which they bring to life through enthusiastic role play, sensory activities, craft, and linked writing activities.

SEU2 recently enjoyed an absolutely fantastic opportunity with a special visit from three friendly donkeys!

This proved to be a huge success, with children thoroughly enjoying the experience of meeting, stroking, and brushing their new furry friends. We have also explored the delightful stories of ‘The Scarecrows Wedding,’ ‘Stick Man,’ and ‘The Seasons.’ This focus inspired some truly fantastic, hands-on art projects. The children got highly creative, making their own ‘Stick Men’ using a range of natural objects and designing themed scarecrows. They especially loved exploring the different textures of leaves, twigs, and other materials sourced from nature. Daily activities linked to the seasons have also been key, reinforcing their understanding of change in the world around them.

Our Attention Autism sessions continue to be a massive hit! The children have been fully engaged in attention builder activities such as making lava potions, using emotion splatter, and creating fascinating bubble snakes. This structured yet fun approach is proving fantastic for developing key skills, including increasing attention span, strengthening listening skills, and enhancing joint attention.

The children in SEU have been actively exploring different materials and their properties.

We had a blast in science, re-enacting the story of The Three Little Pigs! We investigated different materials to see which types of houses we could and couldn’t blow down, helping us understand concepts like strength and structure.

In Food Technology, we’ve been learning all about food groups and the importance of healthy foods. This week, the children practiced their cutting and spreading skills as they tasted different ingredients and made their own sandwiches. Next week, we will be trying different fruits and making a delicious fruit salad!

We continue to work hard every day on developing key skills, including fine motor skills, Maths activities, and RWI.
